Motorcyclist Dies in Highway 49 Crash

Emergency response vehicles flew through the middle of Mariposa Thursday afternoon at around 2:40 p.m. in response to a traffic collision on Highway 49 South near Sebastopol Road.

The incident involved a motorcyclist, 33 years of age, and a Toyota pickup truck driven by a Verna Fellows. The motorcycle was registered to an Oakhurst address.

According to the CHP report, the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Highway 49 South at a high rate of speed, passing other northbound traffic. Ms. Fellow was traveling alone, southbound on Highway 49 South and was preparing to turn left into a private driveway when the motorcyclist collided with the right side of her Toyota pickup. The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries in the collision. CHP reported that Ms. Fellows received minor injuries.

Neither alcohol nor drug influence is currently suspected in causing or contributing to the collision. All parties are believed to have been using the legally required safety or restraint devices. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
